Image Licence Types
There are two methods of licencing images - Royalty-free licences and Rights-managed licences. These two methods differ greatly in how you can use them and how much you will be charged. This page provides a brief overview of the 2 types of licences and how you can use them.
Summary of the Royalty-free (RF) licence
- You buy the images by size not usage
- Usage is restricted to the Gekko Terms and Conditions and the Gekko RF Usage Licence
- There is no exclusivity available on RF images
- These images are cheaper and are therefore likely to be sold often. Please consider RM images for your brand and quality images requirements
- RF images tend to be highly generic
- You can only purchase RF images from the RF collection
Summary of the Rights-managed (RM) Licence
- Images are licenced on size and usage
- Each image has a unique usage agreement attached to it
- RM images represent our premium collection
- Exclusivity and rights buy-out are available for RM images
- RM images are an excellent alternative to shooting commission photography and represent significant saving over shooting custom images
- RM licences have an expiry date. You will be notified of the expiry date 10 days prior to expiry
Gekko Star Rating
The Gekko Star Rating system is a quality and price system to help you select the best images for your budget. 3 Star represent the best quality in a licence type and 1 Star the most economical. So the best quality are RM 3 Star and the most economic are RF 1 Star.
